We visited the AMC's Carter Notch Hut nestled between Wildcat and Carter Dome. There are two gorgeous lakes as well as a talus field known as "The Ramparts". It's a relatively easy hike (something like 3 hours up and 2 hours down) and the scenery is most impressive.
